Management Asbestos Survey
The standard survey for buildings in normal use. We locate, sample and assess asbestos-containing materials so you can meet your legal duty to manage, with a clear report and asbestos register.
A management asbestos survey (formerly a Type 2 survey) is carried out to HSG264 for buildings that are in normal occupation. Its job is to locate and record the presence and condition of any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) that could be disturbed during everyday use, maintenance or minor works.
It supports the “duty to manage” under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 — the legal responsibility that falls on anyone who owns, occupies, manages or has responsibility for non-domestic premises.
A survey that lets you manage with confidence.
Locate & sample ACMs
We inspect accessible areas, take representative samples and have them analysed by an accredited laboratory to confirm the presence of asbestos.
Condition & risk assessment
Each material is assessed for condition and the risk of disturbance, so you know what needs managing, monitoring or removing.
Report & asbestos register
You receive a clear survey report and an asbestos register you can act on — the foundation of a compliant asbestos management plan.

Management Asbestos Survey — your questions
What is the duty to manage asbestos?
Under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, anyone responsible for non-domestic premises must take reasonable steps to find out whether asbestos is present, assess its condition, and manage the risk. A management survey is how you find out what you’re dealing with.
Is a management survey intrusive?
A management survey is largely non-intrusive — it covers materials likely to be disturbed during normal occupancy and routine maintenance. Where refurbishment or demolition is planned, a more intrusive refurbishment & demolition survey is needed.
How long does a management survey take?
Time on site depends on the size and complexity of the building, but most surveys of typical commercial premises are completed in a single visit. Laboratory analysis of samples follows, and we return the full report shortly after.
What do I get at the end?
A survey report identifying any asbestos-containing materials, their locations and condition, plus an asbestos register — everything you need to build a compliant asbestos management plan.
