The brief
-
UK Building Compliance were appointed to undertake an Energy & Sustainability Statement
-
This was for a proposed rebuild of a domestic dwelling in an exclusive area of Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire
-
The Statements were required in order to demonstrate how the development meets the sustainability requirements of the local authority which go above and beyond baseline Building Regulation requirements:
-
Carbon Reduction Strategy: to outline a 5% reduction in carbon emissions on top of Baseline Part L Standards
-
Water Consumption Proposal: to demonstrate a significant reduction to Part G Baseline Standards to achieve water consumption levels of <110L per person, per day
-
Waste Management Strategy: aimed at maximising recycling and composting provision to meet British Standards
-
Sustainable Construction Proposal: to ensure the sourcing of sustainable materials and minimise landfill waste on site
The process
-
Despite a significant amount of glazing, which initially posed compliance issues, UKBC liaised with the client and the architect in order to find appropriate solutions
-
With the provision of an air source heat pump, accompanied by Solar PV and low U-Values, the proposal met all of the national and local requirements needed to gain planning permission
The results
-
Compliant
-
Planning Approval Granted
-
The development went above and beyond the minimum requirements in order to demonstrate a 45% reduction in carbon emissions - resulting in lower running costs in the long term for the client
