The brief
UK Building Compliance were appointed to undertake Air Tightness Testing and Sound Insulation Testing at a new build property in Bradford, Yorkshire. The sound tests were airborne wall tests.
To pass an airborne test for conversion properties you must score 43 dB or higher. Airborne tests measure the difference in sound levels between the receiver room and neighbouring walls or floors. If the sound output in the receiver room is 100 dB and the sound leakage being passed through into the neighbouring room is 40 dB, then the result would be 60 and therefore would be a pass.
The process
After our technicians calculated the areas of the property, testing was ready to be carried out. All calibrated equipment was set up in accordance with our strict procedures to ensure the most accurate result possible. Our testers are ATTMA and SITMA accredited.
The results
- Compliant — both tests passed comfortably.
- Sound insulation passed with ease, achieving a strong 55 dB airborne wall result (target ≥ 45 dB).
