Why does my conversion need sound testing?
If the conversion creates adjoining dwellings — splitting a building into a semi or terrace — Part E requires sound insulation testing across the new separating wall, both airborne and impact where relevant.
What happens if the sound test fails?
We help diagnose the issue and specify the solution. Conversions often have flanking paths through the existing structure; we identify them and set out the fixes, then re-test.
Does a conversion need an air test?
Generally not — air pressure testing is usually a new-build requirement. Conversions are assessed on Part L via the SAP, with Ventilation confirmed on site and Sound testing across the separating wall.
